It used to be a long time ago
You may remember Murathan Mungan’s poem with these lines; nowadays our nostrils ache in a different way. We miss the old days in a different way. Those were the days when everyone smiled at each other, those were the days when aid was given publicly in front of millions, not hypocritically, when the left hand did not know what the right hand gave. Because the purpose of aid was not to show off, to make a show, it was a religious, conscientious and moral social duty.
It was not for millions to see, hear and hear and praise the donor. The intentions were good and so were the people… But where are those old people? As Kemal Tahir said
Those good people rode away on those beautiful horses.
