The life of Mus’ab bin Umayr ra.
You know how we say Alhamdulillah we are Muslims but we boast about our wealth and property… Mus’ab Bin Umayr ra was so rich. After he became a Muslim, he lived in poverty. When he was martyred, he didn’t even have a full set of clothes to bury him…
Mus’ab bin Umayr (ra) belonged to one of the most respected and rich families of Quraysh on his parents’ side. He lived a very comfortable life because they were rich. He was of medium height, with a beautiful face, kind and mild-mannered, and extremely intelligent. He spoke beautifully.
Since he had a sound mind, he knew that idols could not bring any benefit or harm and he hated worshipping them. He was raised by his mother under the best conditions in prosperity and abundance. The people of Mecca envied him because he had a beautiful face and was rich.
The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said of him;
“There is no one in Mecca more graceful, more graceful, more beautiful than Mus’ab.”
They had said.
Mus’ab bin Umayr’s conversion to Islam
Despite all these comforts, Mus’ab bin Umayr ra. felt a great emptiness in his heart. For this purpose, he went to the house of Erkam bin Abi’l-Arqam, where our beloved Prophet explained Islam and Muslims gathered in Mecca. As soon as he saw the Prophet, he became a Muslim. The moment he accepted Islam, his life suddenly changed. Poverty replaced the old wealth and riches.
The torment and suffering of Prophet Mus’aba
His family did not spare their beloved son any torment. In order to turn him away from his religion, they imprisoned him in a cellar in their house and left him without food and water for days. Under the scorching sun of Arabia, they tortured him severely and unbearably. But Mus’ab bin Umayr (ra) showed patience and perseverance in the face of these severe and cruel tortures and never turned away from Islam. Each time he would shout with all his might:
- There is no god but Allah, there is no god to be worshipped. Muhammad ‘alaihis-salâm’ is His prophet.
After accepting Islam, Mus’ab bin Umayr (ra), who was subjected to hardships and tortures in Mecca, migrated to Abyssinia twice with the permission of the Messenger of Allah. He stayed there for a while and endured all kinds of hardships. Then he returned and came back to our Prophet. Hazrat Ali narrated his arrival as follows: We were sitting with the Messenger of Allah when Mus’ab bin Umayr (ra) came. He was wearing nothing but a patched dress. When Rasûlullah saw him in this state, his blessed eyes filled with tears and he said the following words full of example: - Look at this person whose heart has been enlightened by Allâhu ta’âlâ! His parents were feeding him with the best food and drink. He left them all for the sake of Allah. He said, “The love of Allah and His Messenger has made him what you see.
The first teacher, the first teacher of Islamic history
Musab bin Umayr, one of the first teachers of Islam
The people of Medîna, who had become Muslims in the first Aqaba bî’at, said to Rasûlullah: “O Rasûlullah! Islam has been announced and has begun to spread among us. The Prophet said, “If you are a Muslim, you should not be a Muslim, and if you are a Muslim, you should not be a Muslim, and if you are a Muslim, you should not be a Muslim, and if you are a Muslim, you should not be a Muslim, and if you are a Muslim, you should not be a Muslim, and if you are a Muslim, you should not be a Muslim, and if you are a Muslim, you should not be a Muslim, and if you are a Muslim, you should not be a Muslim.
Our Master Rasûlullah sent Mus’ab bin Umayr (ra) to Medina and said to him:
“Our Master Rasûlullah sent Mus’ab bin Umayr (ra) to Medina and ordered him to read the Qur’ân al-kerîm to the people of Medina, to teach them the commandments and prohibitions of Islam, and to lead their prayers.”
Mus’ab bin Umayr (ra) arrived in Medîna in a short time. They welcomed him there with great joy. He settled in the house of As’ad bin Zurâra (ra). The landlord was one of the first Muslims from Medina. He started to teach people their religion there. As a result of the great efforts and services of Mus’ab bin Umayr (ra), Islam spread rapidly in Medîna. So much so that Islam entered every house and there was almost no one who did not believe.
The exemplary incident in Madinah
Mus’ab bin Umayr (ra) was teaching the Qur’ân al-kerîm and explaining Islam in the house of As’ad bin Zurâra’ (ra) in Medîna. Sa’d bin Muâz, one of the chiefs of the tribes in Medîna, and Usayd bin Hudayr had not yet become Muslims. Their situation was affecting the environment and preventing the rapid spread of Islam.
One day Mus’ab bin Umayr (ra) was in a garden, explaining the religion to the Muslims around him and chatting. At this time, Usaayd, one of the chiefs of the tribe of Aws, came angrily with a spear in his hand and began to speak as follows: Listen to us, why did you come to us, why are you deceiving people? If you do not want to lose your lives, leave this place immediately!
Seeing his outburst, Mus’ab bin Umayr (ra) said: – Come and sit down for a while! Listen to our words. Understand our intention, if you like it, you can accept it. Otherwise, you will be an obstacle,” he said in a very soft and gentle way. He said, “You have spoken the truth,” and sat down by stabbing his spear into the ground. Mus’ab bin Umayr (ra) told him about Islam and recited the Qur’ân al-kerîm. When he heard the unique eloquence and sweet style of the Qur’ân al-kerîm, Usayd could not contain himself and said: – What a beautiful and good word this is. He asked what he should do to enter this religion. The teacher with a beautiful face and sweet tongue replied: -It is enough to say: -La ilaha illallah Muhammadun Rasûlullah.
Upon this statement of Mus’ab bin Umayr (ra), Usayd, who said the Word-i shahadah and became a Muslim, could not stand in his place out of joy: – I will go and tell my friends about it.
When he reached Sa’d bin Muâz, the chief of the tribe of Aws, and his tribe, he said that he had become a Muslim. Seeing this, Sa’d was surprised and became angry and ran to Mus’ab bin Umayr (ra). When he reached him, he began to speak in a harsh and angry manner. Mus’ab bin Umayr (ra) spoke very softly to him and told him to sit down and listen for a while. Sa’d softened in the face of this kind speech, sat down and began to listen to what was being said. Mus’ab bin Umayr (ra) told him about Islam and recited some of the Qur’ân al-kerîm. While the Qur’ân al-kerîm was being recited, Sa’d’s face suddenly changed. He became a Muslim there and then.
He immediately went to his people with the enthusiasm of a superior state and peace he felt in himself and said to them: -O my people, how do you know me, you are our elder and superior.
- Then you must believe in Allah and His Messenger… Unless you believe, it is forbidden for me to speak to your men and women. Thereupon, his people accepted Islam all at once. That day there was no one left in his tribe who did not believe. As a result of Mus’ab bin Umayr’s (ra) great efforts and services, Islam spread rapidly in Medîna. So much so that Islam had entered every home and there was almost no one who did not believe.
Companions who resembled our Prophet
Mus’ab bin Umayr (ra) took part in the second Aqaba bîat with the Muslims from Medina who became Muslims. He was a banner bearer in the Battle of Bedr and showed great effort and heroism. He was one of the two people who participated in the Battle of Badr together with Suwayd bin Harmale. Mus’ab (ra) also participated in the battle of Uhud. Again he was the standard bearer. In this battle, he did not leave the Prophet’s side and resisted the attackers. He was wearing two suits of armor. In this state, he resembled the Prophet.
Mus’ab Bin Umayr ra. Martyrdom
One of the polytheist army, Ibn Kamia, was attacking the Prophet when Mus’ab bin Umayr (ra) confronted him. This polytheist cut Mus’ab bin Umayr’s right arm with his sword. Mus’ab then immediately took the banner in his left hand. At that time Mus’ab (ra) said, “Muhammad (peace be upon him) is only a Messenger. He was reciting the 144th âyat al-kerîma of Al-‘Imrân sûra, which means, “How many prophets have come and passed away before him! When his left arm was cut with a second blow, he held the banner with his cut arms, pressed it to his chest and recited the same âyat-i-kerîma. Ibn Kamia attacked Mus’ab bin Umayr (ra), who had shielded himself against our Prophet in this state, and thrust a spear into his body, and Mus’ab bin Umayr fell down and was martyred.
Who is Musab bin Umeyr
When Mus’ab bin Umayr (ra) wore armor, he resembled our Prophet, so when the polytheists martyred him, they thought that they had killed our Prophet. When Hazrat Mus’ab was martyred, an angel in his likeness took the banner. The Messenger of Allah was not yet aware of the martyrdom of Mus’ab. He was calling out, “Forward, O Mus’ab, forward! When the angel who was holding the banner turned back and said to Rasûlullah, “I am not Mus’ab, O Rasûlullah,” Rasûlullah realized that it was the angel who was holding the banner.
After that, our Prophet gave the banner to Hz. Ali. When our Master Rasûlullah saw Mus’ab bin Umayr (ra) martyred, he stood by his head and said: “There are such brave ones among the believers that they were faithful to their promise to Allah. Some of them fulfilled their pledge that they would fight until they became martyrs. Some are waiting to be martyred.
Good News of Martyrdom for Mus’ab bin Umayr
The Messenger of Allah (sall-Allâhu ta’âlâ ‘alaihi wa sallam) said: “The Messenger of Allah (sall-Allâhu ta’âlâ ‘alaihi wa sallam) is a witness that you will be gathered as martyrs in the presence of Allah on the Day of Resurrection. Then he turned to his companions and said: – Visit them. Give them greetings. I swear by Allâhu ta’âlâ that whoever salutes them in this world, these saintly martyrs will salute them in return on the Day of Resurrection. Afterwards, nothing could be found as a shroud for Mus’ab bin Umayr (ra). Mus’ab bin Umayr (ra), the child of one of the two richest families of Mecca, had no shroud to cover himself. He was buried by covering his body with his robe and his feet with grass.
Habbâb bin Eret (ra) says: When Mus’ab bin Umayr (ra) was martyred in Uhud, nothing was found to cover him but a short cardigan. We pulled the cardigan over his head and his feet opened. We pulled it to his feet and his head opened. The Prophet said to us: – Pull him to his head! Cover his feet with grass!
